A Hockey Education for the Youngin

We have a brand new nugget in the fam! Clayton and I gained a niece a little over a month ago. Clayton’s step-brother and sister-in-law welcomed Ava Sue to the world and she’s the most precious baby.

Now, Clayton and I are clearly passionate about the world of hockey, and we can’t wait to teach our future children all there is to know about the sport…but why wait until then? We’ve got a niece to educate!

Obviously, we will be teaching our precious niece that the Chicago Blackhawks are the greatest NHL team of all time. This may seem harmless, but little Ava has other aunts and uncles who aren’t going to be so happy about that. On Ava’s dad’s side of the family, she has an aunt who named her son after Tage Thompson, who was drafted by the Blues. Yes, you heard that right. Ava is cursed to have a family that is split in a huge NHL rivalry. If my lovely little niece knows what’s good for her, she’ll be a hawks fan in no time. I mean, I’ll love her regardless, but it will be hard to be related to a Blues fan….

Clayton and I are armed and ready to fight back if necessary. If we have anything to do with it, Ava’s first words will be “Go Hawks” and her favorite colors will be red and black. We’ve got Blackhawks trivia and game highlights ready to go for when it’s our turn to babysit 😉
